Rideshare services like Lyft in Cancun have been a controversial issue for years. As of 2024, the taxi union has come to an agreement only with Uber which will end the conflicts but Uber is still not allowed to provide taxi services at the Cancun Airport. Other rideshare apps like Lyft are not available in Cancun. Cancun Airport transportation should be reserved in advance.
What can I use from the airport instead of Lyft in Cancun?

The ADO bus is an economical option but has a limited schedule and the bus will not wait for you. ADO brings you to the downtown Cancun bus terminal on Avenida Uxmal. You will have to find a way to get to your accommodations from there which can mean a public bus or an expensive taxi ride. This can add hours to your travel day, you will have to manage your own luggage and really leaves you on your own to navigate the complicated streets of the city.
Arriving without transportation is a bad idea as you will not find Lyft services at the Cancun Airport and it is not legal to simply hail a taxi. Hitting the ground and running into the “sharks” trying to hard sell you on services is overwhelming and stressful. You risk being scammed at the Cancun Airport, losing time, money and the safety of you and your travel partners.
